Taifa Leo, a leading Kiswahili Newspaper published by the Nation Media Group, is seeking a result-oriented, dynamic, self-driven and experienced journalist to fill the position of News Editor.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

* Maintaining a diary of events for the Taifa desk;
* Assessing political, social and economic climate and anticipating likely developments for coverage;
* Briefing Taifa reporters and advising them on angles to take on a story;
* Guiding Taifa reporters and writers on coverage and writing of stories;
* Ensuring that Taifa reporters write stories and deliver them within the set deadlines;
* Reviewing stories to ensure they meet editorial objectives, house style and journalistic ethics;
* Monitoring, guiding and mentoring reporters and recommending areas for career growth; and
* Managing the Taifa reporters leave and shift schedules.

Knowledge and Skills requirements:

* University degree
* Postgraduate diploma in journalism;
* Minimum 5 years reporting experience
* Competence in Kiswahili language
* A solid record of integrity and professionalism;
* A good network of news sources
* Ability to manage a team of professionals
* Ability to work with minimum supervision and cope with the pressure and tight deadlines.
