Position: Clinical Consultant
 
Reports To: HMIS Chief of Party
 
Project Description:

We have assisted governmental and nongovernmental agencies, foundations, and the private sector by designing, implementing and evaluating programs in HIV, sexual and reproductive health, population and family planning, maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and gender. 
Futures Group has deep expertise in policy and advocacy, research and strategic information, health markets and private sector engagement, modeling and economic analysis, patient monitoring and management/HMIS, strategic consulting, and program management.

Futures Group provides HMIS support to the Government of Kenya (GoK) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 
Under a new contract, the Futures team provides a range of technical assistance including: support for the continued development and implementation of the national HMIS strategy; improving information flow to guide policy and program decisions; facilitating interoperability between disparate HMIS including specific efforts to harmonize and integrate laboratory, pharmacy, and electronic medical records (EMR) sub-systems; and developing a data warehouse.

Position Summary:
 
The clinical consultant located in Kenya will advise and provide technical expertise to the Chief of Party, and the broader project team. 
The individual will provide guidance and clinical expertise to aid the team in laboratory, disease selection and pharmacy drug mapping during the EMR roll out. 
The clinical consultant must possess clinical knowledge in mapping the national accredited pharmacy list with laboratory tests. 
The work requires innovation, often with very little guidance. 
This work is very technical in nature and knowledge is specialized. 
The individual must be familiar with the Kenyan health environment and would be required for the most accurate mappings in both laboratory and pharmacy. 
The successful consultant must be ready to take up the task soonest possible.
 
Minimum Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:
  • A trained Medical Doctor with Postgraduate education, with extensive health facility-anchored skills both as a doctor and as a health informatics expert.
  • Experience on Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Care and Treatment Programs (ART)
  • Understanding of public health information systems in Kenya, including EMRs.
  • A minimum of 3- 5 years in the development of software systems, testing, solution implementation and training with particular emphasis to health informatics
  • IQCare knowledge/or experience preferred
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Health, experience with EMRs desired but not required
  • Experience in LOINC for laboratories systems, ICD10, HL7, and drug mapping is an added advantage
Essential Functions:
  • Map the current set of laboratory tests found in EMR systems including IQCare with the LOINC code
  • Map the current set of HIV diseases found in various EMR systems with the ICD10 code
  • Map the current set of pharmaceuticals found in EMR systems with the pharmacy national drug code

Icipe Senior Research Assistant Job in Kenya

icipe is an intergovernmental organisation funded by government aid agencies, UN organisations and private foundations to carry out research and training in environmentally sound and sustainable management of arthropods for improving health and agricultural productivity in the tropics.

icipe has approximately 300 staff to support its research and capacity building programmes, located at various sites in Kenya, Ethiopia and Sudan.

The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (icipe) seeks to recruit an experienced Senior Research Assistant as soon as possible to work as an assistant to the Trial Coordinator of the project: Long-term farming system comparisons in the tropics.

The project is run by a team of scientists, technicians and students of the Plant Health Division, icipe, and partner institutions: the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) the Tropical Soil Biology and Fertility Institute (TSBF); the National Horticultural Research Centre of the Kenya Agricultural Research Institute (KARI); the School of Environmental and Human Sciences of Kenyatta University (KU);the Kenya Organic Agricultural Network (KOAN) and the Kenyan Institute of Organic Farming (KIOF).

The objective of this long-term trial is to compare the performance of organic and conventional farming practices in terms of agronomic parameters, soil fertility, pest and disease dynamics, biodiversity and socio-economic parameters.

Requirements

* M.Sc. degree or its equivalent in the field of agricultural or environmental sciences
* Minimum of 5 years experience in agricultural research, including field experiments, data analysis and publication, preferably in the field of soil science
* Minimum of one publications as a first author in a refereed journal
* Training and working experience in organic agriculture, including composting and preparation of bio-pesticides would be desirable
* Willing to travel (by public transport) between the trial sites in Chuka (Meru) and Thika (Central Kenya), Kangari, and the icipe Duduville Campus, Kasarani, Nairobi

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assist the Electrician in carrying out various functions including the following:

* Support the coordination of the two long-term farming systems comparison experiments located at Chuka (Meru) and Thika (Central Kenya), i.e.
* Manage the trials; provision of required trial inputs (e.g. biomass for compost and mulching, farmyard manure, compost, bio-pesticides, vegetable nursery);
* developing and applying sampling procedures; data collection and compilation;
* Supervise technicians and students;
* Write trial reports, including preliminary analysis of data
* Report to and coordinate with the project partners
* Support the participatory research activities in Kangari
* Other tasks as assigned by the project partners or the Project Implementer

ILRI Post Doctoral Scientist – Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia Job in Kenya (USD 35,000)

The International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) works at the crossroads of livestock and poverty, bringing high-quality livestock science, communications and capacity building to bear on poverty reduction and sustainable development.

ILRI is one of 15 centres supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ILRI seeks to recruit a post-doctoral scientist to join the Contagious Bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) research group within the Biotechnology department. CBPP is regarded as one of the most important livestock diseases within Africa. The position is required to ensure the development of sensitive diagnostic tests and to investigate host-pathogen interactions to help with the development of improved vaccines as part of a three year donor-funded project.

Responsibilities

* Contribute to efforts to develop an improved diagnostic test for CBPP
* Assist with activities supporting the generation of a panel of Mycoplasmamycoides-specific antibodies
* Assist with activities related to the detection of Mycoplasmamycoides proteins expressed in vivo
* Assist with activities related to the genome transplantation and mutagenesis of Mycoplasmamycoides

Requirements

* A PhD degree obtained no more than 5 years ago in the field of microbiology, immunology or molecular biology
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to perform in multidisciplinary and multicultural research environment.
* Willingness and ability to travel to partners in Namibia and Europe.

Post location: The position is based at ILRI’s Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.

1. A first or second class upper (2.1) Bachelors degree in social science or a health related subject.
