Location
The airport is located 16km (10 miles) to the southeast of central Nairobi, in the Embakasi suburb.

Airport News
Nairobi airport is the largest and busiest airport in East and Central Africa. A massive expansion project that will increase capacity almost three-fold started in 2006. Taxiway and aircraft parking areas will be increased substantially. Arrivals and departures areas will be separated, and the terminal will be thoroughly renovated. Although the annual number of passengers has gone well beyond 4 million, the current capacity of the airport is 2.5 million. The expansion project will increase this to 9 million passengers.
Driving Directions
Driving to the airport is straightforward. Head towards the south east on the A104 past the Embakasi suburb and follow the signs to the airport.
Car Parking
The airport has 900 short-term and 100 long-term parking spaces.
Car Hire
Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz are some of the car hire companies at the airport.
Public Transport
Bus: Services between the airport and the city centre depart from the bus stops outside terminal 1 and 2. Services are frequent.
Taxi: Available outside the arrivals hall, and they take travellers to the city for a fixed fare.
Information and Help Desks
There are information counters in all the terminal units and the arrival hall.
Airport Facilities
Money and communications: Banking facilities, a post office and currency exchange services are available in the terminal building.
Eating and drinking: There is a restaurant on the fifth floor of the terminal building. A café is available in terminal unit 1, while a restaurant and pub are available in unit 2 and a café and snack bar in unit 3 and the international arrival hall. There are soft drink vending machines in all terminal units.
Shopping: There are plenty of shops at the airport. There are African clothes shops, a jewellery shop, a book shop, fashion shops and duty-free shops selling tobacco, spirits, cosmetics, toiletries, gift items and much more.
Luggage: There is a left luggage service at the airport. For inquiries about lost luggage, contact one of the information counters.
Other facilities: A first aid service is available, and there are baby care facilities as well in the terminal building.
Conference and Business Facilities
There are no conference facilities as such at the airport, but there are several airline lounges as well as a VIP lounge available. There is also a cyber café offering Internet access in the departures area, and if fax, printer or copy services are needed, enquire at the information counters in the terminal building.
Facilities for Disabled Travellers
There are toilets accessible to wheelchair users in the terminal, but facilities are basic. Passengers in need of assistance are advised to contact their airline before travelling.
Hotels
There are no hotels at the airport. Hilton Nairobi Hotel (tel: (020) 250 000), Grand Regency Hotel (tel: (020) 211 199), Fairview Hotel (tel: (020) 288 1000) and the Nairobi Serena Hotel (tel: (020) 282 2000) are all located in Nairobi, 20 minutes from the airport.
