Kenya Polytechnic (A Constituent College of the University of Nairobi) Jobs in Kenya

The Kenya Polytechnic is now seeking to recruit senior members of management at the levels of Deputy Principals,
Deans of Faculties, and the College Registrar and Secretary.

1. Deputy Principals

The Deputy Principal is the principal assistant to the Principal and heads one of the strategic administrative divisions of the university college. The deputy principal shall, under the general direction of the Principal, be required to provide strategic leadership and direction in his/her respective strategic administrative division, in line with the mission and vision of the university college.

The Deputy Principal shall be further expected to provide leadership in his/her area of academic specialisation and
shall be required to dedicate at least one-third of his/her time to academic pursuits including teaching responsibilities.

The successful candidate shall thus be simultaneously appointed to the position of professor in the teaching Department of their specialisation within the university college, and should thus in addition be qualified to be appointed as such.

Candidates for this position shall be accomplished scholars with extensive experience in university teaching, research,
and administration. They should posses an earned PhD degree or equivalent with experience of at least five years
at senior management level in a university or an equivalent institution of higher learning or research.

In addition to the general qualifications indicated above, the candidates should possess as well the qualifications for the respective positions as below.

(i) Deputy Principal (Teaching, Learning, and Students)

The candidate should demonstrate wide experience in the management of academic programmes and student affairs
at university or equivalent institution of higher learning.

The candidate should have at least served in the position of Dean of Faculty or equivalent at university or equivalent
institution for at least three years. Further, the candidate should demonstrate a good appreciation of national and
international issues and trends in higher education and training including WET.

(ii) Deputy Principal (Research, Innovation, and Enterprise)

The candidate should demonstrate a high and sustained profile in research at university level as evidenced by publications in scholarly journals.

The candidate should further demonstrate active involvement in projects and programmes on science, technology, and innovation and should be familiar with contemporary concepts and developments in innovation and research and development at the international level.

Further, the candidate should demonstrate the ability to provide leadership in the development of a business and
entrepreneurial culture in a university.

(iii) Deputy Principal (Networks, Partnerships and Linkages)

The candidate should demonstrate experience in networking with various groups and communities from the perspective of a university. The candidate should be able to provide leadership in the initiation of linkages with various
organisations that the university college ought to partner with for the realisation of its mission and vision.

The candidate should in particular possess excellent communicative skills and should be an outgoing personality.

2. Deans of Faculties

The Dean of Faculty is the academic and administrative head of the Faculty. The Dean shall, under the general direction of the Principal, be expected to provide general and strategic leadership to the Faculty and to this extent shall have
overall responsibility for the direction, organisation, and administration of the programmes within the Faculty.

The Dean shall be expected to provide academic leadership in his/her area of specialisation and shall be required to
dedicate at least forty percent of his/her time to academic pursuits including teaching responsibilities.

The successful candidate shall thus be simultaneously appointed to the position of professor in the teaching Department of their field of specialisation within the university college, and should thus in addition be qualified to be appointed as such.

Candidates for this position shall be senior scholars with considerable experience in university teaching, research, and
administration. They should posses an earned PhD degree or equivalent with experience of at least three years at the level of Chairman of Department in a university or an equivalent institution of higher learning.

The university college is seeking to appoint Deans in the following areas:


(i) Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology - Ref: AD/0013/10
(ii) Dean, Faculty of Business and Management Studies – Ref: AD/0014/10
(iii) Dean, Faculty of Creative and Liberal Studies - Ref: AD/0015/10
(iv) Dean, Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment – Ref: AD/0016/1O
(v) Dean, Faculty of Information and Mathematical Sciences – Ref: AD/0017/1O

3. College Registrar and Secretary


Ref: AD/001 7/10

The College Registrar and Secretary is responsible to the Principal for the general administrative functions of the
university college and for this purpose is the principal administrative officer of the university college and shall
be the head of the Division of Resource Management and Administration.

Candidates for this position should have extensive experience in university administration with at least five
years at the level of Deputy Registrar or equivalent.

In addition they should have strong ICT and communicative skills. They should demonstrate a thorough understanding of the processes in university administration. The successful applicant should posses at least a Master’s degree in any field of business management and administration.

Remuneration

The appointments to these positions are tenable on contract for a period of five years and the remuneration shall be in
line with the general wage structure in the public university system in Kenya and shall be as follows:

Deputy Principal – Job Group XVII
College Registrar and Secretary — Job Group XVI
Dean of Faculty — Job Group XVI
